A voice of reason has emerged in the ongoing debate over the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque,” and it is MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann whose commentary has been posted at Youtube. It is an incredibly open-minded and tolerant commentary which, unfortunately, will not be seen by a fraction of the people who see all the negative hype in the media. I encourage all of you to go see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZpT2Muxoo0

Last night I was discussing this sad situation with my friend Jessica, and we both agree that the intolerant people get an inordinate amount of attention in the media, and generally dominate world affairs because the open-minded people tend to sit back and not get involved. As Olbermann indicated, that makes us all part of the problem. So Jess and I are trying to decide how can we get involved to help counteract the selfish people always getting their own way?

Anybody who agrees that this would be a worthy effort, feel free to contact one of us with your ideas and support. It would be too easy for us all to say “yes, we want to do something to improve the country and the world,” and then quickly forget about it, but that is what good people do all too often, which is why the bigots and selfish people often get their way. And one look at the sad shape the world is in should convince all of us that the time for sitting back and hoping for the best is over.
