Last night Jean and I went to see Toy Store 3, which was a wonderful movie, containing pathos, drama, comedy, human interest, and just about everything I could ask for in a movie. We saw the 2-D version, partly because the 3-D special effects often distract from a movie rather than really add anything to it.
Today is one of our monthly dinners with Frank & Marilyn. Jean recommended a nearby Thai restaurant, which should be good since it is highly-recommended.
Currently reading: Nobody writes absorbing sf mysteries as well as Jack McDevitt. He mentioned in a recent interview that he “loves mysteries, but not whodunnits,” and I agree with him. His mysteries are either historical or scientific, and invariably well-plotted. I have started Cauldron, the last of his Academy novels.
Currently listening: When I gave away my record albums several years ago, I lost several of my favorite albums ever. In recently years I have replaced Tom Petty’s Damn the Torpedoes and Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, so this past week I bought Paul McCartney & Wing’s Band on the Run. It sounds every bit as good 35 years later as it did when it was first released, as good as any Beatles album, and definitely the highlight of McCartney’s solo career.
