Several people I know have no interest in Facebook, claiming it is a useless waste of time. I disagree totally. It is a simple but effective way to keep in touch with people, especially those who update the status on their profile page regularly. Seeing their comments keeps me informed on their activities, while often spurring me either to reply to them or message them. And while it is not easy to keep in touch with dozens (or hundreds) of friends regularly, the occasional interchange with friends is definitely worthwhile.

Yesterday was a prime example of that. Birthdays are posted on FB users’ profile page (assuming they wish to allow it), and I enjoy sending birthday greetings to my friends. Yesterday was my birthday, so 68 people sent me birthday wishes on Facebook! I probably haven’t gotten that many greetings on my birthday total the past thirty years!

Currently Reading: The classic adventure novel Ivanhoe, by Sir Walter Scott, was a wonderful book, even though it was written in a style that is nearly two centuries out-of-date. While I realize that Scott cheated on the timing of the Norman-Saxon feuding, as well as the existence of the legendary Robin Hood in that era, and much of the novel was blatantly over-the-top, it was still great fun. I would gladly read more of his historical fiction.
