I’ve gone on a wild spending spree lately:

> 3 cds: Bruce Springsteen’s The River , the Band’s Rock of Ages, and Banco’s Darwin!;

> twenty-four 1950s issues of Worlds of IF;

> the graphic novel Showcase Presents Warlord;

> National Geographic’s entire run of magazines on CD-Rom.

I suspect that is all the pleasure spending I will do for the rest of this year. ☺

Tonight is the first game of the World Series, with the Yankees playing the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees had an awesome year and are probably favored to win their first series in a decade. Go Yanks!

Today is also the first day of NBA basketball, and the Nets are playing without Vince Carter whom they traded to Orlando for a shooting guard and considerable salary cap space for next year. They have a lot of very good young talent, but their fate this year will depend on how well they play together, how quickly they all mature, and whether they can play defense. Hopefully they will be competitive.

Hi, Bob,

I've been out of touch for awhile. We're on a road trip, been gone since Oct. 2. See what you can do after you retire. I applaud your purchase of 24 issues of The World of If. But I question the run of National Geographic on CD. I think I had the complete run up to around the time they converted them to CD. Boy, did they take up a lot of shelf space. I hope you enjoy them and get a lot of use out of them. I used several issues when I was researching deserts for a book I was writing. The magazine is certainly good for that.

Your CD purchases made methink of several CDs I wantto get. I'd best make a list of them before I forget them. Some books I've thought along the way. We're currently in Arizona on the way home. Heading for Las Vegas tomorow to hole up for a couple of days to watch the Breeder's Cup horse races. There are many miles between cities or towns in Arizona which gives one a lot of time to think. Sometimes too much.

Hope the school year is going well for you.

Cheers,
Frank
