Last night was the Senior Award Assembly, one of my favorite events of the school year. It made me very happy giving the Faculty Scholarship to Tino and Mimi about whom I said, “they have also impressed me, which is not that easy to do.” Too deserving winners.
A mother mallard laid her eggs in the courtyard between wings of the school building, and her baby ducklings hatched about two weeks ago. They have been living there ever since, and the custodians used a water hose to create a pool for them. However, nobody saw the mother today, and somebody did some research and learned that occasionally the mom gets frightened and abandons her babies, who then have nobody to teach them how to find food or how to fly, so they seldom survive. I spent most of a period trying to contact the ASPCA for advice, but could not get through to them. So I sent email to my friend in the Audubon society and I’m awaiting his reply.
