Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who fit that designation (I know you do, Isis! ☺). This is the first time we are visiting one of our sons on Mother’s Day, since Mark and Kate invited us today. Once your children graduate college, new indications of the “passing of the generational torch” occur quite frequently. Just wait until the wedding in July!

I can’t believe there are only 5 weeks of school left until exams. Time certainly does fly by when you’re having a good time. There are a lot of enjoyable activities in the upcoming month, including a luncheon for a bunch of my students, the annual Valedictorian-Salutatorian dinner (to which my brother and I are both going; how is that for irony?), the NHS Induction, the annual Sunshine luncheon, the end-of-the-year banquet, and my Honors Algebra 2 projects which are always very enjoyable. And people think I should give all this up to be an administrator? Not!

Currently listening: Tom Petty is one of my favorite singers, but like all rock and rollers, his albums got uneven as he aged. Then last year he and two of the Heartbreakers reunited with their first band and released a fabulous album called Mudcrutch. It is one of Petty’s best three albums ever, ranking with such classics as Damn the Torpedoes and Southern Accents. I recommend it very highly.

Currently reading: I have always been a big fan of science fiction magazines, and one of the best is Fantasy & Science Fiction which de-emphasizes sf hardware for human-oriented stories. Current editor Gordon van Gelder has done a great job with it, and I an enjoying reading both back and current issues.
