Monday night was our annual Target Teach celebration, which was an enjoyable occasion at which our student apprentices, their mentor teachers and their families gathered to celebrate the conclusion of another year. As usual, all of the attendees were touched by the video montage at the end of the students working in their classrooms with their own students.
Last night was a scholarship dinner with one of my students and his family, another enjoyable occasion. I am fortune to teach higher-level students who get a lot of honors and often ask me to accompany them. It is always nice to see students recognized for the right reasons.
I am not sure how true this is, but somebody told me that at a recent debate among Republican candidates for president, the moderator asked how many of them do not believe in evolution, and three candidates actually raised their hands! Are they absolute morons? How can anybody possible vote for a candidate who denies scientific fact? Of course, our president claims to believe in “intelligent design,” which, in my opinion, is merely an excuse to please the religious right without being so foolish as to outright deny the facts of evolution.
