Memorial Day is the emotional start of summer, which means the last few weeks of school the usual stress and work should be more tolerable with the light at the end of the annual tunnel almost in reach. Much as I really love teaching–and why would I do it otherwise considering how much more money a mathematician can earn in industry?–the chance to wind down and relax a bit is always enticing and makes up for other negatives in the profession.

Currently listening. Gryphon is a progressive rock band whose music has been described as “medieval.” While there are certainly historical influences, their music is thoroughly modern, but difficult for anybody used to three minute pop tunes. Their Transatlantic Anthology contains most of their best music, and is recommended to fans of prog rock.
