This is an incredibly-busy weekend, so here are a few thoughts running through my crazed mind right now:

Next week are the AP Calculus and AP Statistics tests, so I am a bit nervous about how my students will do on them, especially the AP Calculus BC since this is the first year we taught it to an entire class ... There are only 5 teaching weeks left in the school year, so basically the worst of the endless work will be over soon ... We have offered 3 math teachers jobs, but none of them have signed anything yet, so officially we still have 7 opens in my department for next year. *sigh* ... Go, Nets! ... Two weeks until Mark’s graduation, after which he joins the (rich) working world ... Why the heck do I need to spend endless hours preparing an AP Audit for both AP Calculus and AP Statistics, when our scores on those tests the past 20+ years speak for the rigidity of our course offerings?

Currently reading: Fourth Planet From the Sun, edited by Gordon Van Gelder, a fine collection of sf stories set on the planet Mars. Last night I read one of my all-time favorite short stories, Roger Zelazny’s “A Rose for Ecclesiastes”, and it was just as good as I remember it. If you have never read that story, look in your local library for a copy of Fourth Planet or, if that is not available, try either The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, volume 1, edited by Robert Silverberg, or either of Zelazny’s collections Four For Tomorrow or The Doors of His Face, The Lamps of His Mouth.
