I am not a cold weather fan and I should join all those retired snowbirds who relocate to the warm-winter south. However, temperatures in the 90s do not thrill me either, and considering how warm it has been recently in the end of May, that does not bode well for the summer.
Our first house (which we lived in for 8 years when we were first married) had no air-conditioning, but it was set in the midst of trees and we installed a whole-house fan which did a decent job of keeping us comfortable in the summer. Our second house (where we lived for 6 years) was not in the trees, but we installed another whole-house fan and were reasonably comfortable.
We moved into our current house in 1993, and this time we decided we had enough heat and installed central air-conditioning soon after buying the house. Now we are totally spoiled, and even though we realize central AC is not particularly environmentally-friendly, we could probably not do without it.
Friday we bought a new trailer. We bought our first popup in 1995, and it served us well on trips to New Orleans, Florida, and other locations. But it takes about 30-35 minutes for each setup and take-down, so it was not conducive to a lot of traveling where we stayed one night at a campground before moving on.
So we purchased an A-liner Expedition, whose setup and take-down averages about–and I am not exaggerating here–3-5 minutes each. It is also 10' longer, and includes a few additional amenities which we did not have previously (a microwave, refrigerator, onboard toilet), so we are anticipating lots of happy camping.
