Tuesday’s election results pleased me overall, and they verified Abraham Lincoln’s statement “You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” Of course, this does not guarantee that a Democratic-controlled Congress will be much better than a Republican-controlled Congress was, although at least it should place some controls on a very-dangerous White House.
All the media in New Jersey is overly-excited about Rutgers University’s football team, so much so that football coverage is crowding election news off the front pages of the newspaper. This is the same Rutgers which early this year cut million of dollars from its budget, including nearly 100 faculty and staff positions, while raising the salary of its football coach to $1 million, which is double the salary of the university president. Reportedly they also funnel $5 million per year into football. Rutgers has supposedly been striving in recent years to become a major university, but its anti-education attitude in favor of big-time sports will always leave them a second tier university at best.
Which is why I am so happy my son goes to the much-better TCNJ instead.
