This will not be too busy a weekend, so I hope to get a bit of my own work done besides school work. I only have to write 2 tests and grade another, plus do some of my lead teacher chores. Throw in a haircut this morning, and a trip to the YMCA this afternoon, and I should have most of Sunday free to myself.
Currently reading: I normally do not like thrillers, but Katherine Neville’s 1989 novel The Eight is a rousing combination of historical fiction set during the French Revolution, chess match, and thriller that was really exciting reading. I read more this past week than I normally do during school, but it was worth it.
Currently listening: Dion DiMucci is one of the most underrated artists of the past 40 years; yes, that was correct: Dion first achieved popularity in the early 1960s with such pop hits as Runaround Sue and The Wanderer. He dropped off the charts in the mid-1960s when he became friendly with Bob Dylan and switched to folk music. In the decades since he was alternated folk, rock, and even gospel, but everything he recorded has been brilliant. I am listening to Return of the Wanderer, his 1978 highly-underrated album featuring at least one outright classic Lookin’ For the Heart of Saturday Night, and several other superb tracks such as Midtown American Main Street Gang, Guitar Queen, and I Used to Be a Brooklyn Dodger. This album, and nearly everything Dion has recorded, is highly recommended.
