Yesterday we met Alan and Denise at the Chinese buffet, and afterwards Alan came here and installed WordPerfect 12 for me. It works fine, and I have finally transferred most of my updates from the past 12 days into the correct files. However, I do not have a copy of Adobe Reader now, which I had hoped would come with WP, so now I need to find a–hopefully free–version online to download.

I found mention online of a Kobe e-reader, which is relative cheap at $129, and free of many bells-and-whistles in which I have no interest. It is supported by Borders, which is scary since they might go out of business at any time. But it is made by a Canadian company, and I need to do a bit of research to see how reliable they are. The reader comes with 100 classic public domain novels, most of which I do not have, and several of which I would like to have (such as Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone, Cervantes’ Don Quixote, Sir Walter Scott’s The Lady of the Lake and Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter). It seems compatible with books in Adobe format, which is one of the formats of the fiction I downloaded from the World Science Fiction Convention. If all my research goes well, I would love to have one! ☺
