I guess it’s going to be In Like A Lion as the predictions for tonight into tomorrow call for 8"-12" of snow. This could be a major problem since tomorrow I need to get all the calculators ready for Tuesday’s statewide HSPA testing. Of course, if the snow is as bad as predicted, many school districts will have delayed openings Tuesday, which will force the state to delay the testing for a day. For my sanity’s sake, I hope so.

I finally took the plunge this weekend and downloaded two cds onto the Ipod which George gave me about six months ago, both progressive rock: The Strawbs’ Broken-Hearted Bride and Renaissance Live at Carnegie Hall. I don’t like listening through headphones, but I do have an adapter which should enable me to play them in my car. If so, I will likely fill the Ipod and use it daily when my satellite radio expires in another month.

Currently listening: You can never get enough Petty! I’m listening to Tom Petty & The Heartbreaker’s 6-cd box set Playback which incorporates 3 cds of their best songs and 3 cds of outtakes and live versions. Great stuff.

Currently reading: Leigh Brackett is one of the underrated masters of science fiction, having won more acclaim for her screenplays (such as The Empire Strikes Back and The Big Sleep) and in other genres (a Spur Award for the western novel Follow the Free Wind) than for her science fiction. Her retrospective collection Sea-Kings of Mars is a fine overview of her sf career.

Good grief, we really are alike. You mention Strawbs and Renaissance. I have several Strawbs albums and several LPs of Renaissance. We saw Renaissance live in some local venue way back in the 70s. And then you mention Leigh Brackett. I recently read the first of her Skaith novels. At the very first convention that I attended, a Westercon in Santa Barbara, I sat at a table with Leigh and her husband, Edmund Hamilton, and had a very pleasant conversation for a couple of hours. They were both very engaging. I was saddened to hear that Philip Jose Farmer died. So am re-reading To Your Scattered Bodies Go.
