I did something Monday I almost never do, I stayed home from school to catch up on paperwork. English and Social Studies teachers do that occasionally because of their rush of papers needing to be graded, but I am usually able to keep up. This year, however, with my five different preps, plus the new AP Calculus BC curriculum, I have been perpetually behind in my work and very stressed as a result. The three day weekend helped a lot, so I think I can keep my head above water until Spring Break in another 7 days.
I publish a quarterly magazine called Visions of Paradise, many of whose readers are fellow sf fans who also write or published about f&sf. One of my trading partners is Joseph Major, a very good reviewer who last year published a book entitled Heinlein’s Children, a study of Robert A. Heinlein’s 12 classic juvenile novels from the 1950s, which were probably responsible for attracting more fans to science fiction than any books ever published. Today Joe’s book was honored with a Hugo nomination–the most prestigious award in science fiction–for Best Nonfiction Book. Congratulations, Joe! If only Who Shaped Science Fiction? had been so well-received. ☺
