This was never intended to be a weekly blog, but I have been so busy the past week that I have had virtually no computer time. Monday night I got home 9:30 from our monthly Target Teach seminar. Tuesday we all stayed late doing the Target Teach grades for the first marking period. Wednesday was the Morris Area Math Allianc e workshop at which I spoke about preparing students to take the state-mandated graduation requirement HSPA (which I am definitely not an expert on). I spent Thursday and Friday nights catching up on schoolwork and wading through some of the pile of mail which had accumulated all week. *sigh*

This weekend will be a bit better, devoted to such chores as writing a tests, finalizing first marking period grades, and writing recommendations and nominations for several people. My hope is to finish all my work today, so that I can have Sunday relatively free. But you know what the fate of such dreams usually is.

Currently Reading:
The Skull Mantra, by Eliot Pattison, a detective novel set in contemporary Tibet, which is more concerned with Tibetan culture and history, and its relationship with China, with the mystery as more of a framework than the book’s raison d’etre. It is fascinating reading and, at least in my amateur opinion, very authentic.

Currently Listening: Gryphon was an acclaimed progressive rock group of the 1970s, known for making “medieval” music. They finally have a two-cd anthology Crossing the Styles and it runs the gamut from music that indeed resembles 1,000 year old folk music to pure progressive rock. Very interesting stuff.

I'm glad that you're trying Eliot Pattison. I think he's a wonderful writer. And that book is the beginning of the story of Shan, the Chinese man in a Tibetan work camp. So it was the proper place to start.

Just got back from a long trip. Glad that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and have much to be thankful for.

Frank
