My hope of returning to school Thursday healthier than I was when the two-day Jewish holiday began was only a pipedream. I was so miserable both days I stayed home sick Thursday and was still sick all day Friday at school. Fortunately, I have felt some improvement yesterday and today, so I am optimistic–again!–about returning to school tomorrow.
Yesterday Jean and I took a trip to The College of New Jersey where Mark and Kate took our niece Michelle on a tour. She is a high school senior now and in the process of applying to colleges. It was a long, tiring day walking around campus, but I really like TCNJ, and its campus. It is the type of school I wish I could have attended when I went to college, although my choices were limited at the time for various reasons unrelated to my ability to get accepted into them.
Speaking of applying to colleges, I have begun receiving requests to write college recommendations for my own seniors, so I am starting to write them. I do a lot of recommendations each year because I have the seniors twice, some of them even three times, plus many of them feel comfortable with me due to the time they spend in the Math Lab. It's a job I take very seriously since my recommendations might actually tip the balance in a student's favor if their application is on the border. Hopefully I will not let any of them down in their quests this year!
