Monday morning when I arrived at school I found 10 paperback books in my mailbox, 8 of them by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury is one of the finest fantasy and science fiction writers ever, at his best truly understanding the human heart, both the sensitive side as well as the unsettling side. Several of the books I already had, nor was I anxious to add so many books to be collection of books waiting to be read. So I kept three of them that I did not have already–The Illustrated Man, The Golden Apples of the Sun and S is for Space. All three collections contain stories from the late 40s through the mid-60s, which were Bradbury’s best years.

The rest of the books I shared with three of my favorite people at PHS, all of whom love to read: George is a longtime science fiction fan who recommended the series Battlestar Gallactica to me two years ago; David has been reading sf his whole life, although his first love is really mysteries; Preeti is a very special student to whom I gave The Martian Chronicles, one of the finest sf collections ever published, and I really think she would enjoy reading it.

I have been reading stories from The Illustrated Man every night, and loving them. If only I could write half as well... ☺
