Whenever I read a book, I usually review it for VISIONS OF PARADISE. Recently I counted how many reviews I wrote for the past four issues–which is an entire year’s worth of the zine–and I counted 26 reviews. That means I read approximately one book every two weeks last year. That might not seem like many, but I also read a lot of magazines as well, primarily zines related to fiction, such as LOCUS, THE NEW YORK REVIEW OF SCIENCE FICTION, BOOKMARKS, and HISTORICAL FICTION REVIEW, not to mention fiction zines such as issues of GALAXY, ASIMOV'S, INTERZONE, F&SF, LADY CHURCHILL'S ROSEBUD WRISTLET, and probably several hundred fanzines I receive in trade for VoP.

My biggest complaint about reading “only” 26 books per year is that I buy anywhere from 18-24 new books each year, which does not leave me any leeway to go back and reread any of the thousands of books in my collection, nor read the several dozen books on the shelves which are still unread. Should I cut back on some of the magazines? Probably, although certainly not all of them, especially the zines related to f&sf.

I want more time to read!!!!!!
