I remember a conversation I had twenty years ago with Linda Clark, one of the finest teachers and nicest people I know. She has as many outside activities as I do, and she was bemoaning the fact that our need to work for a living precludes many of those activities. Then she commented that teachers seem to “wish away their lives” waiting for summer vacation.

I love teaching, as anybody who knows me will vouch, but I also love my writing and editing activities, and I look forward eagerly for whatever meager time I have available to indulge in them. Summer vacations are great. So are Christmas break and winter break and spring break, and even the occasional snow days.

Which is why I have been anxiously following the weather forecasts the past two days anticipating the 3-7" of snow predicted for tonight (and as much as 12" on some weather reports). It will be so nice to catch up on some writing chores, as well as finally begin editing Fei Fei’s Tibet book.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... ☺
