Some regrets and delights in my life (and, yes, some of them are contradictory. Live with it! ☺)
• I regret that I majored in a field in college that I did not feel qualified to get a doctorate in, since I have always regretted leaving academia;
• I am glad that I majored in mathematics since teaching it has been absolutely delightful;
• I regret that I was not good enough to become a fulltime science fiction writer;
• I am glad that I spent the past few decades teaching high school students, since I have been fortunate enough to teach mostly higher classes and form bonds with many wonderful students;
• I regret that I have not socialized more in my life, since I really have very few people that I can honestly call friends;
• I am glad that I have not wasted large amounts of time, but instead have devoted it to my favorite two activities, reading and writing.
Thanks to all my former students who have visited me the past two weeks on their breaks (Agnes, Monisha, Christine, Christina, Aishwarya, Sneha, Sharan, and anybody else whom I might have forgotten). While it’s nice spending time with all the current students in the Math Lab (Melody, Mandi, Tomas, Sana, Tino, Charles, Jon, Foram, Priscilla, Arieta, Mimi), it is nice to keep in touch with you guys too.
Currently reading: The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction: great stuff, one of the best sf magazines ever, recommended to anybody who wants more than space ships, Star Wars and little hobbits running around. This is a f&sf magazine for sophisticated readers.
Currently listening: Lennon, a four-cd set which contains nearly all John Lennon’s solo stuff, including the well-known (“Imagine,” “Mind Games,” “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”, “Starting Over”) and the lesser-known gems (“New York City,” “Isolation,” “Woman Is The N***** of the World”). Great stuff through and through.
