Some thoughts...
I am entirely too emotional, although most people don't realize it. I posted a blog here Wednesday, then Thursday I realized how whiny it was, so I reposted. Friday I realized it was still too whiny, so here it is Saturday and I’m posting yet a third time. Since it’s a weekend, and I’m relaxed, the post should be anything but whiny.
I worry too much about my students, even those who do not want me to worry about them, and who might not need my concern at all. I have lost at least two students’ friendship over the years because of how “paternally” I have treated them.
The vast majority of my friends are correspondents, many of whom I have never met in person (the fannish friends) or have not seen in years (the former students). Since the majority of my in-person socializing takes place at school with both fellow teachers and students, I expect that all my friends will be correspondents when I retire in a few years.
I have a close friend whom I took for granted for several years, but whom I now realize I am very fortunate to know.
Currently Listening. http://www.progarchives.com/ is a great website for fans of progressive rock. Their visitors rate all progressive rock albums by every artist, which provides a good “recommended listening” list. The website also lists the top 100 albums overall based on average ratings, and the #1 progressive rock album is Jethro Tull’s fabulous Thick As A Brick. This album is as good as progressive rock gets.
Currently Reading. I am a lifelong science fiction fan who does not favor the “hard science” end of the spectrum, so Ray Bradbury is one of my “Big Three” of science fiction’s Golden Age (along with Clifford D. Simak and Alfred Bester). While S is For Space is not a masterpiece such as The Martian Chronicles, it is still a worthwhile collection of stories from the 1940s through the early 1960s.
