I got an unexpected phone call this past week from Sarah, another math teacher who left three years ago to attend graduate school. Talking to her started me thinking about the many changes in the department since she left. With Adrianne and Megan both on maternity leave, only two of us remain as regular department members from when Sarah originally arrived in the school. That’s a lot of changes in a relatively short period of time.

This is a brief three-day Easter vacation, filled with so much school work I doubt I will be able to enjoy it much. Fortunately there is a five-day Spring Break not too far in the future.

When Jean, Mark and I visited Naples and Capri two summers ago, we spent an afternoon dubbing our voices for a video game (a combination mystery and travelogue, with gorgeous scenery of the island) which has been released as Anacapri: The Dream. I finally ordered a copy online, and while Jean and I still are in the game, Mark has unfortunately been overdubbed by somebody else. So much for his 15 minutes of fame!

This weekend is the start of the NCAA basketball tournament. It is much less interesting this year than usual since neither Syracuse (Jean’s alma mater) nor Seton Hall (mine) are participating in it for the second consecutive year. At least there are 8 Big East teams competing, so that gives us something to root for (although I mostly follow the games in the newspaper rather than actually give up valuable time to watch them).

Other Links. I keep up with a few other blogs regularly, so here are a few which might be of interest to some of my readers as well:

http://www.sfsignal.com/ : a daily newszine of both written and video fantasy & science fiction;

http://antickmusings.blogspot.com/ : the daily blog of Andrew Wheeler, a former sf editor of the Science Fiction Book Club, who is a voracious reader and interesting commentator;

http://sfscope.com/ : another daily sf newszine, although strictly for book fans;

http://jameswharris.wordpress.com/: a daily blog by a man whose in-depth observations of books, sf, and life are always fascinating reading.

That's neat being part of a video game in any capacity. I admit, my gaming extends to computer text adventures only.

And since Notre Dame got slaughtered I've run out of teams to cheer for.
