I tend to have a bit of a Jekyll-Hyde personality. The insecure and introverted side was my natural personality much of my life until I started teaching and forced myself to be much more controlled and outgoing at school. So what will happen when I retire if I abandon the controlled/outgoing portion of my life? I do not want to return to the insecure/introverted personality fulltime, especially since I will be losing the vast majority of my social life as well.

Perhaps it is time for me to make a second deliberate change in myself and eliminate all remnants of my original personality and adopt the at-school side totally. I don’t have much time to do it, and it will certainly not be easy, but if I want the last few decades of my life (and isn’t that a scary statement?!?) to be as pleasant as my time at school has been, I don’t have much choice.

Currently reading: It is hard to read detailed novels during school, so short fiction is generally my reading of choice, and who better to wile away a few hours than Ray Bradbury? S is For Space is one of the books my friend George gave me a year ago, and it is vintage Bradbury.

Current listening: The Progessive Rock website http://www.progarchives.com/ has its viewers vote on the quality of hundreds of progresive rock albums, and the one which received the highest rating ever was Jethro Tull’s masterpiece Thick As A Brick. Not surprisingly, Tull has been one of my very favorite bands in recent years.
