This week is the annual World Science Fiction Convention, being held in Boston this year. In the 70s I attended as many worldcons as possible, avoiding only those overseas or on the west coast because of expense. I attended two Bostons, New York City, Washington, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Toronto. I attended my last worldcon in 1981, and my wife was so bored all weekend that I decided not to waste money attending another one that she would not enjoy.

I read a lot of books this summer, all of them either f&sf or historical fiction. Their subject matter ranged from the Viking invasions of the British Isles to World War II cryptographers. While I do not think they were quite as good as last summer’s reading was, overall I have no major complaints with any of the books. Now that school has started I do not have as much time to read though, so novels tend to shift to the sidelines while I read mostly short fiction, which does not require as much concentrated time. If you are interested in reviews of any books I have read, follow my link to Visions of Paradise, which is my sfnal blog.
