I really enjoyed the past week in Canada, a country I have always loved for its natural beauty and the friendliness of its people. Their standard of living is as close as possible to what we have in the United States, and when you consider everything else Canada has to offer as well, it must be a very nice place to live.
We camped in our popup camper near the Thousand Islands, and made day trips to Ottawa and Montreal. Ottawa was a splendid small city. I particularly loved its farmer’s market and little shops, and Capital Hill was a marvelous place, rivaling Washington D.C. in its impressiveness. Montreal was much more cosmopolitan, but I did enjoy Vieux Montreal, the old city with its cobblestone streets and gorgeous riverfront. We spent time watching a street magician who tickled me by giving his spiel both in English and in French (the latter of which I understood part of, but not all, from my 5 years of French in high school and college).
The Thousand Islands themselves are always fun. We took a three-hour boat tour one day, and spent another paddle-boating on the river itself. A fun, relaxing week, without any need to think about the Statistics I have been studying all summer, or the imminent start of school in less than three weeks. Argh.......
