Food is very important to me. People fall into two categories: those who eat to live, and those who live to eat. While that is obviously a bit of an exaggeration, it is fair to say that eating, reading, and writing are my three favorite activities. A day can be judged partly by how successful its writing was, how pleasurable its reading was, and how tasty its eating was.

The past two days are good examples of the latter. Yesterday Jean made a new recipe consisting of stir-fried tortellini and chicken with vegetables. Delicious! Today I was looking forward to lunch because the faculty cafeteria was selling their best soup: Italian wedding soup, which contains of orzo, vegetables, and meatballs. Megan Barry loves it as much as I do, so we were both excited about today’s lunch. ☺

CURRENTLY READING: the April, 1951 issue of GALAXY MAGAZINE, and it is a fairly unspectacular issue. The feature stories are Poul Anderson’s novelette “Inside Earth,” which has a good concept but is done in much too obvious and heavy-handed a manner (which illustrates how young Anderson was at that time; had he written the story 10 or 20 or 30 years later, I am sure it would have been much subtler); Fritz Leiber’s short story “Nice Girl with 5 Husbands,” which was enjoyable but relatively minor; and Cyril Kornbluth’s famous novelette “The Marching Morons”, which is much better than his “Two Dooms” which I read a few years ago and absolutely savaged in my review!

CURRENTLY LISTENING: THE FOLK YEARS, 9 cds of classic folk and folk-rock from the late 50s through the late 60s, capped by a live cd of the Newport Folk Festival. Fun stuff, ranging from classic folkies such as the Kingston Trio and the Rooftop Singers through such rockers as the Lovin’ Spoonful, Bob Dylan, and the Band.
