As a teacher, I have never understood why people actually celebrate Labor day!☺ It’s the end of summer, the end of sleeping late and not being controlled by a clock, the beginning of 6½ day work weeks, of dealing with stress and people who think they understand education but really don’t.
Fortunately, it’s also the beginning of spending time with students who work hard and actually care about doing their best. So while right now I’m staring down a year-long tunnel, after spending a few days in the Math Lab and in my honors and AP classes, it will all be good.
I am really annoyed at the whole furor about President Obama addressing the nation’s students to emphasize the importance of education. The uproar has been orchestrated by arch-conservative pundits whose supporters obviously care nothing about education, and would rather complain about everything the president does than give him a fair chance. No wonder this country is in so much damned trouble.
