Last night was the NHS Induction which I try to attend whenever possible, although I could not be there last night. I enjoy seeing my students honored for their academic achievements, and a lot of them were there last night (although a few of them were not there, but definitely should have! Poor Rabbit). Elaine was elected president, which I think was a wonderful choice. I was rooting for Preeti to become an officer as well, but she took her defeat well.
Thinking about current students has reminded me of some of my favorite old-time students with whom I stay in contact, most of whom are doing well and seem relatively happy.
• Fei Fei is finishing her semester of research for Microsoft at Cambridge, and she is preparing for her professorship at Illinois Urbana-Champaigne in the Fall
• Sudarshan quit the finance world about a year ago and is pursuing his phd at Columbia; I believe he enjoys academic more than business, and hope he stays in it for awhile
• Lauren is in medical school, studying hard as usual, while spending her summers doing her Air Force officer training
• Jessica is in Lhasa, Tibet, teaching English, and you know I am envious of that
• Jessy is still working in the Bronx district attorney’s office while considering how to pursue an eventual career in the diplomatic service. Law school is one option she has been considering
• Suruchi is married and working in NYC for the FBI, the latest in her incredible series of careers following elementary Spanish teacher and motivational speaker
• Marwa is married and expecting her first child soon! She will be the first of the students I have stayed friendly with to become a mom
• Sneha is doing very well at Newark Rutgers, stretching herself even farther with student government as well as Indian Association; ah, the joy of having no time to sleep
• the list goes on and on and on: Cathy, Xixi, Meghan & Leslie, Kevin, Andy, Viv, Lauren, Tysha, Dimple, some of whom I have not chatted with in far too long. But it is nice to know they are all doing well in their lives, and hopefully will continue to do so for a long, long time.
